Moving Image Research Collections

The University of South Carolina's Moving Image Research Collections (MIRC) is among the nation's largest film and video archives. Our holdings comprise more than 8,000 hours of moving image material. Many footage requests can be fulfilled without an onsite visit.

Visiting and Assistance

While personal visits to the archive can be accommodated, we recommend contacting us before your visit so we can prepare the necessary materials. To discuss a request or for assistance with a question, please email us at mirc@sc.edu or call 803-777-6841.

  • Students, faculty, staff and the general public may view material online, free of charge.
  • Most requests for footage can be fulfilled at a distance and do not require an in-person visit.
  • For licensing requests for film, television, books or other projects, email Ben Singleton at bsingle@mailbox.sc.edu or call 803-777-6211.

 

Location and Hours

MIRC is located at 707 Catawba Street in Columbia, South Carolina (29201). We are open Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free street parking is available directly across from the building.
