Scopus research database now available to USC researchers

University Libraries now provides USC-affiliated researchers access to Scopus, a vast multidisciplinary abstract and citation database that can help users increase research efficiency, access data on journal, article and author influence, and enhance the visibility of their research.

Through Scopus, researchers can access over 90 million references to scholarly journal articles, books, book chapters, conference proceedings, and patents. They can also identify research trends, locate potential research collaborators, and explore a variety of metrics for references, such as times cited for articles, as well as author level metrics such as h-index.

Coverage in Scopus is particularly strong in STEM fields and the social sciences, complementing Web of Science, which is already available through University Libraries and provides strong coverage of arts and humanities.

“The addition of Scopus gives our faculty and students access to a tool that strengthens their research, teaching, and scholarly endeavors,” said Brent Appling, University Libraries Head of Collection Strategy & Management. “Scopus provides great tools for navigating a vast number of scholarly sources and is an excellent tool for organizing research projects.”

“Scopus is an invaluable resource for researchers conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses,” said Research and Instruction Valerie Vera. “Scopus’ extensive, multidisciplinary coverage ensures that researchers can gather comprehensive literature on their topics, reducing the risk of overlooking critical studies. It’ll be an invaluable resource for conducting thorough and high-quality reviews essential for advancing knowledge and evidence-based practice.”

University Libraries has committed to a two-year subscription to Scopus and will renew it more permanently if usage levels suggest the USC community finds it valuable. Feedback during the initial subscription period is very welcome.
