Platonov

November 9-17, 2018
Longstreet Theatre

By Anton Chekhov
Directed by Steven Pearson

This first, originally untitled farce by influential playwright Anton Chekhov was never published in his lifetime.  Finding himself on a downward spiral fueled by lust and alcohol, disillusioned schoolteacher Mikhail Platonov proudly lives by the credo “speak ill of everything.”  Platonov’s cynical wit and world-weariness belie a charisma that proves irresistible to the opposite sex, leading him into a tangled - and dangerous - web of love and deceit.

…a buoyantly tragic farce with a hero who combines the…vigour of Don Juan with the moral hesitancy of Hamlet.
